Happy Birthday Babe!

March 18, 2008 1 comment

Today is my bride’s birthday! What a babe! Stephanie is a wonderful wife and mother who is becoming an extremely strong Christian woman. I’m told by people all the time how lucky I am to be with her because I’m way out of my league. Happy birthday babe!

A Few Bad Apples at the Gopher Game

October 13, 2007 Leave a comment

Last night Stephanie and I went with some friends to the U of MN hockey season opener. My friend had gotten a free parking pass and four free tickets in a suite! Parking and strolling into suite level knowing you didn’t pay anything is pretty cool.

Unfortunately the tickets were in the suite of a local rock radio station who had also given away some promotional tickets. The guys in the suite were already 5 or 6 beers in by the time we got there. Other people’s drinking isn’t really my business, but the filth that was coming out of these guys mouths made enjoying the game impossible. They were loud, obnoxious and vulgar.

So after the first period I struck up a conversation with a man in a suite next to ours. It turned out that he worked for the Xcel Centre and he invited us to come watch the rest of the game in his suite. In the meantime another person from our suite asked management to come and talk to the trouble makers and they were eventually removed from the premises.

It is sad how a few bad apples came spoil the experience of others so easily. I would never consider myself the language police, but there comes a point where people need to be at least semi-conscious of their environment. Needless to say, after we moved suites we had a blast watching the game and visiting with our friends.

Thrift Store Day

October 9, 2007 Leave a comment

Today was 50% off day at the thrift store; it is like that on all major holidays. Stephanie gets all crazy for these thrifting days. Her and kids took a trip down to Crystal today and found some really great stuff.

I haven’t seen all the clothes yet but I am sure she picked out the good deals, like she always does. With three growing kids, anytime we can get quality clothes at half off it is BIG bonus. I’m hoping she found some more red shirts and khaki pants for me as well.

The only thing I don’t want to see is the bill.

Derek Lynde Wedding

October 8, 2007 Leave a comment

Had a great time officiating the wedding of my friend Derek Lynde yesterday. Derek is a guy I have known since high school; his dad owns the greenhouse where I have worked for the last 10 years. Besides getting an extended date with my wife (who looked GREAT!), connecting with some friends from high school that I rarely see was my favorite part of the wedding.

It was an outdoor service at the MN Landscape Arboretum in Chaska. The weather was beautiful and the setting idyllic. The wedding had a few bumps beforehand (I almost had to throw down with a self-proclaimed wedding coordinator regarding the chair set-up) but everything was smooth sailing during the service.

The reception was at the Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center. It was very elegant. I have never danced as much as I did last night and I hope my wife appreciated it because I felt like a dummy; last night was the only wedding I have been to where the pastor and his wife shut down the dance floor!

5 Year College Reunion

September 23, 2007 1 comment

Today Stephanie and I attended our 5 year college reunion. Can’t believe it has already been that long since I was a crazy college kid without too much to care about day to day. It was fun to spend a night out with my wife after a hectic week where we never really had a chance to connect. Most of the people looked the same, except for the overwhelming number of pregnancies in the room! I didn’t do a lot of mingling (not my style) but I did really enjoy connecting with some hockey teammates and other friends. I’m pretty sure Stephanie and I won the prize for “Most Kids Borne Since Graduation.”

Vacation Highlight #1

On Friday night Stephanie and I had a chance to go on a double date with our good friends the Kerr’s. We went to Comerica Park in Detroit and watched the MN twins play against the Tigers. Baseball in an outdoor stadium is sweet, can’t wait for the Twins to get an outdoor place. Everything about the night was perfect – free tickets and parking, great seats close to first base, a free hat from the gift shop, a hot dog and nachos, being next to my love, 70 degree temps, and an 11-1 thrashing by the Twins. You can see more photos of the stadium on my Flickr page, here.

What My Kids Would Say on Mother’s Day

I am sure many blogger will be taking the opportunity today to publicly brag up the special women in their lives. I am no different. Sometimes I wonder what my kids would say if they could fully comprehend and articulate all that Stephanie does for them. I’d bet they would say something like this:

My mom is the best because….
– she always gets up at night to help us when we’re sick
– she takes us garage sailing and buys us Toy Story and Clifford toys
– she sits in the driveway while we ride our bikes outside
– she takes us to Taco John’s for potatoes and cheese
– she brings us to the park and the play land
– she takes the time to listen to us
– she prays with us when we are scared
– she is more patient than Daddy
– she reads us books over and over again
– she makes us lunch and dinner almost everyday
– she shows us how to blow bubbles, and write letters, and color pictures, and get ourselves dressed, and how to sing the ABC’s when we wash our hands
– she brings us to church so we can hear about Jesus
– she works outside our house at night so we can have some extra money
– she cares about how we look when we leave the house
– she loves Daddy and keeps him happy
– she gets my bottle and feeds me every night, keeps my diaper clean and dry, does amazing/ disgusting things with Q-tips, lugs me around all day (from Andrew)
– she buys us treats like donuts or slushies when we run errands
– she is full of laughter and fun
– she doesn’t run the house like a dictator and is more concerned with happiness than cleanliness
– she holds me when I am hurting and kisses my bruises
– she reads her Bible and prays to Jesus for strength and guidance
– she wants to celebrate us and create memories we can have forever
– she never gives up on our family, no matter what Daddy does
– she watches movies with us
– she lets us cuddle with her in her bed
– she sings to us and dances with us
– she helps us cut out shapes in play dough
– she tries to be the best mommy that she can be

Mommy, you do so much for everyone in our family. Without you we would be a major disaster. We love you so much and we appreciate all that you are. You are the glue that holds it all in place. And we are blessed to have you in our lives. Never question the positive impact you are having on our futures. Have a wonderful Mother’s Day. With love and adoration,

Jacob, Isabelle, and Drew (with a little help from Daddy)

*All of the themes expressed by my kids are things I could say ‘Thank You’ to my own mother for as well. Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
